Making a Roll Empty Making a Roll

Post by Admin Sat Dec 15, 2018 5:55 pm

A roll can be made to complete a task, remove a negative trait (called a complication) or generate a positive trait (called an advantage).

Whenever a task is required that isn't simply assumed to be success, the storyteller will tell you which attribute to combine with which discipline. This will give you your target number.

Then roll two D20s.
- For each D20s that roll equal to or below your target number you get one success.
- For make that two successes if one of your focuses apply. None cumulative if more than one focus apply.
- Each die that rolls a 1, gain two successes. None cumulative with focuses.
- Each die that rolls a 20 generates a complication.

If you gain an amount of successes equal to or greater than the roll's difficulty, you have succeeded.

Succeed at a cost
Sometimes if you fail a task that cannot be failed (or at storyteller's discretion), you may be given the option to "Succeed at a cost". The storyteller may make this offer before or after the roll is made. If the player agrees to succeed at a cost, then the action is successful but an automatic complication is gained in addition to any that might have been generate by the dice roll.
